To determine the state of preservation of a coin, the ANA created the official Sheldon Grading Scale, which runs from 1 to 70. A coin graded as a 1 is just awful, in fact, the date only has to be barely recognizable. On the high end are coins grading in Mint State condition, from MS60 to the highest grade of MS70.
It's few and far between to ever find a Silver Dollar minted before 1935 in MS70 condition. If you did, it would trade for hundreds of thousands of dollars each.
